                Dad's Lessons
My dad has a unique collection of interesting things in his basement, but none is as intriguing to me as his file cabinet full of stapled pages and sketches.  That's where he keeps the originals of the Sunday School lesson notes he prepared years ago when he taught an adult class at Redeemer Baptist Church in Warren, Michigan.  His lessons always included a drawing or diagram that he would sketch on the large chalkboard they had given him.  You see, he was an engineer by trade at the time, and he loved to make what we might think of as a precursor to a PowerPoint presentation.  As a young girl, I often tagged along late in the week as he made a special trip to church to work on his chalkboard drawing for Sunday.  Some members would even stop by to get an early peak at what was coming.

I've often felt something should be done with all those lessons my Dad worked so hard on.  Getting them digitally recorded seemed like a good idea, and a momentous birthday has given me an excuse to get busy on the project.  On August 19, 2011, my Dad turned 85.  This website and the files I am creating it from are the beginning of a long-term birthday present I am giving him.  I have begun the process of typing and organizing those lessons, but it will take quite awhile -- we believe there are about 150 of them!!  So here I go and ... Happy Birthday Dad!

                Update ...

My Dad has been battling cancer since February of 2011.  He's been receiving chemotherapy on a weekly basis since then and has remained prayerful and confident in his faith since first receiving the difficult news.  Please pray for him and my Mom as his health declines.  He's doing great so far, but the cancer that began in his kidney has spread to other areas as well.
